SUMMARY:Dummy Downhill at Diamond Peak
DESCRIPTION:The big news is that we are pushing the Dummy Downhill event forward to ensure we have enough snow to build the dummy launch ramp. The new date is Sunday\, March 29. Everything else about the event remains the same – same incredible creativity\, same entertaining dummy flights\, same fun DJ dance parties. \n— \nJoin us for the 24th annual Dummy Downhill on Sunday\, March 29\, 2026. Participants build a dummy on skis or snowboards that gets launched off of a big jump\, while spectators get to watch as unique characters fly down the hill or crash hard. This is Diamond Peak’s signature spring event and the biggest party of the year. Even non-skiers will want to come watch the madness! A panel of celebrity judges will evaluate all Dummies on the snow by the Base Lodge\, followed by the dummy launch and an awards ceremony. Prizes and certificates are awarded for creativity\, best crash\, furthest distance\, shortest distance\, survivor\, and most sustainable. \nFor the Sustainability Award (judged by IVGID Waste Not)\, Dummies will be graded based on these criteria: incorporation of recycled materials\, reduction or elimination of plastic elements\, minimizing litter produced upon crashing\, and overall sustainability messaging. Waste Not also has a collection of used skis if you need some for your dummy\, please call them at 775-832-1284. \nDummy Details & Registration\nDummies must be at the Base Lodge by 10:00 a.m. to check in and then be judged on creativity. Dummies cannot be live\, have pyrotechnics and must weigh less than 75 pounds. Dummies must slide on snow via skis\, snowboards\, sleds\, or similar sliding device. Dummies\, songs and costumes must be family-friendly. Team captains should be present to help load the dummies after they have been judged and unload at the top of the jump. The jumping typically begins around noon and will be followed by an award ceremony on the Base Lodge Deck. \nAnyone can build a dummy! Get together with your family class\, coworkers\, sports team\, neighbors\, etc. to show off your creativity. Dummy registration is typically available by February.

DESCRIPTION:Washoe County and the Nevada Division of Insurance are hosting a community meeting for residents concerned about changes to homeowners insurance as it relates to wildfire.  \nDuring the 2025 Nevada Legislative Session\, laws were enacted that impact how insurance companies may assess wildfire risk\, potentially affecting insurance availability\, coverage\, and premium rates for some homeowners.  \nNevada Insurance Commissioner Ned Gaines will present an overview of the new law and how it pertains to homeowners in fire-prone areas of Washoe County\, as well as how insurers may implement the provisions\, and what resources are available to homeowners.  \nFollowing the presentation\, representatives from Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Washoe County Emergency Management will be available to discuss wildfire preparedness and risk-reduction efforts.   \n“Wildfire happens frequently in our area\, and every resident should understand the threat and how they can help protect themselves and their family\,” Emergency Manager Kelly Echeverria said. “We are proud to partner with the State of Nevada to provide this important forum for education and dialogue with residents.”    \nThe event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on February 24 at the Washoe County Administration Complex at 1001 E. 9th Street\, Building A\, in the Commission Chambers. Homeowners are invited to bring their questions and meet with state and local experts on wildfire prevention\, suppression\, and insurance issues.

DESCRIPTION:Local Incline Village-based professional ski racer Lila Lapanja has realized a life-long dream and qualified to compete in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Cortina\, Italy. \nDiamond Peak Watch Party for Lila’s Races\nLila will compete in the Women’s Alpine Skiing Slalom event\, scheduled for February 18\, 2026\, starting at 1 a.m. PST. Diamond Peak Ski Resort plans to host a Watch Party in the Loft Bar at the resort at 12 p.m. that afternoon and rescreen both run 1 and run 2 of the Women’s Slalom competition. It’s expected to take up to 2 hours for all of the athletes to complete each run depending on conditions. \nLila’s Local Legacy\nLila grew up on the slopes of Diamond Peak Ski Resort\, first learning to ski at age 2 when her parents scattered Easter eggs around the bunny slope and challenged little Lila to pick them up while wearing skis. She fell in love with the sport quickly and ultimately found a supportive environment with the Diamond Peak Ski Team as her junior ski racing career took off. \nLila began her professional ski racing career on the U.S. Ski Team\, winning four U.S. National Championship titles along the way. After years of competing on the World Cup\, Europa Cup and NorAm race circuits as an independent racer from the U.S.\, she switched affiliations to ski for her father’s home country of Slovenia two years ago\, with the goal of qualifying for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. \nRecent success on the Europa Cup ski racing circuit this winter led to her inclusion in the Slovenian Alpine Skiing Olympic team – a dream she has fostered from a very young age. \n“Hopefully\, people will remember me as not only one of the best athletes to come out of our town\,” Lila said\, “But also how this place shaped my values\, recognize how amazing of a feat that is in such a small place\, and be proud that we live in an area with the resources to raise champions of all kinds.”

On Saturday\, October 11\, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.\, the Village Center will host the first annual Fall Festival\, an afternoon of seasonal fun for families\, neighbors\, and visitors. \nThe event is designed to bring the community together through fall-themed activities\, local food and drink\, and live entertainment. Festival-goers can look forward to building scarecrows\, decorating pumpkins\, enjoying carnival games\, and listening to live music on the Village Center steps. \nOne of the highlights of the afternoon will be scarecrow building\, where families can collect clothes from Village Center thrift shops and head to Sierra Verde Designs to assemble their creations. Grocery Outlet will set up a pumpkin patch on site\, with pumpkins available for purchase and decorating tables ready for kids and adults alike. \nLocal businesses are at the heart of the celebration. Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant will be serving food\, Glasses Wine Bar will feature wine specials\, and community partners including Tahoe Family Solutions\, Incline High School’s Mi Cultura Club\, Yami Leo’s\, and the Four Square Church will host carnival-style games. Adding to the festive atmosphere\, the local band Jacked Up will perform live music outdoors surrounded by hay bales and autumn décor. \nThe event is free to attend\, with food\, beverages\, and pumpkins available for purchase. Families are encouraged to stop by the Village Center\, located at the Village Center\, Mays Blvd\, Incline Village\, and enjoy an afternoon of fall fun.

Each course starts and finishes in the Regional Park and takes participants along the beautiful Truckee River on the Legacy Trail. The routes include gentle elevation changes\, with the 5K and 10K incorporating a dirt-path segment for a bit of extra challenge. \nAfter crossing the finish line\, every participant will receive a finisher medal and a celebratory beverage\, with a choice of beer or hop water provided by FiftyFifty Brewing. Thanks to decades of incredible community support\, Incline Elementary has been able to keep a strong PE program alive for our kids. Food and drinks will be available\, with Nevada State Parks Foundation serving hot dogs and hamburgers for a small donation while supplies last. \nThroughout the day\, attendees can:  \n• Explore booths and hands-on exhibits from local organizations and agencies. \n• Attend presentations every 30 minutes at the amphitheater from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.\, featuring Bear Biology with California State Parks\, Karelian Bear Dogs with Nevada Department of Wildlife\, Bear CSI with California Department of Fish and Wildlife\, and Bear Storytime with the Zephyr Cove Library. \n• Join the Carson City Parks\, Recreation & Open Space Park Rangers for two guided “Bear Walk” hikes at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.\, covering black bear biology\, behavior\, and habitat. \nParking is limited at Spooner Lake State Park; carpooling is strongly encouraged. Guests may arrive anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; there is no need to attend from the very beginning. The idea was to create an event that would keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and the Reno Air Races and 43 years later\, it is known as a world-renowned\, and locally\, a beloved community tradition. \nTaking place just a few miles north of downtown Reno at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park\, the event enchants both young and old with its vibrant colors and inspiring music.
