You’ll taste each spirit on its own and learn key tasting notes so you understand exactly what’s going into each drink before it’s mixed. \nPaul\, our favorite local bartender\, will then guide the group through three thoughtfully designed cocktails using the Brümate shaker as the primary\, all-in-one tool for the class. Prim Campus. \nThe event\, titled Jean-Michel Cousteau x Keep Tahoe Blue: A Legacy of Protecting Our Waters\, marks a collaboration between the environmental nonprofit and Cousteau\, who is recognized worldwide for his work in ocean conservation and advocacy. \nKeep Tahoe Blue’s 2025 Speaker Series will feature three events in late summer and early fall\, highlighting individuals working in science\, conservation\, and sustainability. \nThe goal of the series is to educate and motivate audiences to take action in protecting natural environments\, locally and globally. \nCousteau\, who has spent more than 60 years advocating for the protection of ocean and freshwater ecosystems\, is known for his work as an explorer\, diplomat\, environmentalist\, educator\, film producer\, author\, architect\, and diver. His early experiences began alongside his father\, Jacques Cousteau\, aboard the ocean research vessels Calypso and Alcyone. \nIn 1999\, Cousteau founded the Ocean Futures Society as a “Voice for the Ocean\,” aiming to reach people worldwide with educational films\, programs\, and live presentations. \nAccording to Keep Tahoe Blue\, his work continues to influence children\, families\, policy makers\, and industries toward more sustainable environmental practices. \nOn its website\, Keep Tahoe Blue said the event on August 23 will celebrate “a shared commitment to water protection.” \nThe program is open to all ages\, and individual tickets and group packages are currently available at keeptahoeblue.org/cousteau.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 8 – The future of our climate is a heavy topic increasingly on the minds of many of us. Conservation and Environmental Psychologists study the impacts of climate and eco-anxiety on behavior and mental health. A combination of problem-focused action\, emotional management\, and social connection have been backed by studies as the most effective ways to address anxiety\, hopelessness\, and depression connected to the health of our planet. \nJoin us for a free workshop and conversation facilitated by TERC education staff Maggie Anderson that will share applicable psychology research\, facilitate group emotional processing through engaging and scientifically supported activities\, and provide the space for impactful discussion and community building. We are looking for diverse audience of various ages and backgrounds to attend this workshop! \nEmail Maggie Anderson at mjand@ucdavis.edu for questions or more information. \nMaggie studied Conservation Psychology at Oregon State University\, where she explored research topics including how to promote pro-environmental behaviors and address eco-anxiety and grief. Since beginning her work at UC Davis TERC as an Education Program Associate in November 2024\, Maggie has designed and facilitated eco-anxiety coping workshops for various organizations around the lake\, including the Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship Council\, UC Davis TERC\, and the Sierra Nevada Alliance AmeriCorps Program. DESCRIPTION:The Tahoe Area Sierra Club and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society will be having the community-based non-profit\, Tahoe Lead\, for Lake Tahoe Historical Society’s summer speaker series to present more about the lead cables found on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe\, the effects on the environment and the ongoing efforts to remove them on August 13 at 6:30 pm. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nExtending eight miles between Baldwin Beach and Rubicon Bay\, abandoned cables containing an estimated 139\,000 pounds of lead parallel the Lake Tahoe shoreline. Come and learn from the organization\, Tahoe Lead\, about the community effort to remove these cables and the potential environmental risks of lead contamination. This 1 hour presentation from Tahoe Lead will be held at Lakeview Commons. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, October 26\, UC Davis TERC proudly hosts a lecture about Wildfire Impacts on Lakes with Dr. Steve Sadro. The in-person event will be held at Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge in their Mountainside Bar. Dinners will be 20% off for interested guests.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExtreme wildfires now occur with increasing regularity in western North America and other parts of the world. These wildfires generate large plumes of smoke and ash that can travel thousands of miles and persist for weeks or longer in the atmosphere. These “smoke storms” block sunlight and deposit ash on surfaces. Lakes and ponds are affected by the reduced light and ash inputs from wildfires\, but much about these potential impacts is unknown. Light and nutrients are both important factors that regulate the growth of plants and algae in aquatic ecosystems. Rates of primary production from plants and algae in turn determine how much food becomes available for other organisms\, such as fish\, and can affect many aspects of water quality. Thus\, understanding how and why aquatic primary production is responding to wildfires is a critical research objective. This lecture will illustrate the scale at which smoke from wildfires is affecting lakes across North America\, and highlight some of the effects with data from lakes throughout California\, including Lake Tahoe’s response to the Caldor fire of 2021.\n\n\nThis talk will feature UC Davis TERC Associate Professor Steve Sadro. Much of his research is conducted in the Sierra Nevada mountains\, where steep landscape gradients provide a natural laboratory to test ecological questions. He seeks solutions to environmental problems and contributes to the conservation of aquatic ecosystems.\n\nAdmission is $10 and free for students with a student ID.
