Recovery efforts for the sunken fireworks barge offshore of Ski Beach are now underway, and while progress is being made, it is far from simple.
Dive teams are working in depths of up to 160 feet with near-zero visibility, carefully recovering fireworks debris, rigging heavy materials, and preparing the barge for lift. Multiple fireworks have already been recovered, cataloged, and will be safely transported out of state under federal guidance. At the same time, crews are navigating mechanical setbacks, underwater terrain challenges, and increasing public activity near the work zone.
This is slow, methodical, and highly dangerous work, with safety driving every decision. For the safety of everyone involved, this area must remain completely clear. Please stay well outside all marked safety zones on both the water and shoreline. Entering or approaching the work zone puts crews, boaters, and yourself at serious risk and will delay critical recovery efforts.
