We recently reported on a floating dock that broke apart on the shores of our beaches, releasing thousands of styrofoam pellets into the sand, and into the lake.
Teams from IVGID Park and Recreation Department, Clean Up the Lake and other community members have been successful in cleaning up 90-95% of the styrofoam pellets from the water and beach; however, wind and wave action have spread some of the tiny foam pellets across the beach and deeper into the sand. They need your help.
Community members with beach access who would like to lend a hand are encouraged to come down to Ski Beach to volunteer with the cleanup efforts. Cleanup tools will be available at Ski Beach for any volunteers who wish to participate, or you can bring your own from home if you have suitable tools. This video gives a brief overview of the work to be done by volunteers.
Can you volunteer an hour or two to help clean up our shores and remove these pesky styrofoam pellets from the environment?
