As of September 18, 2024, the Davis Fire in Washoe Valley, Nevada, has reached 92% containment, covering 5,824 acres. Firefighters are now focused on patrolling containment lines and completing suppression repair efforts, including rolling up 24 miles of hose used during the fire, preparing it for future wildfire needs.
The Southwest Area Incident Management Team (IMT) 1, which has managed the Davis Fire, has officially transitioned control back to local agencies and their Type 4 Incident Management Team. Communication between the two teams is ongoing to ensure a smooth and seamless handover, allowing continuous support for firefighting crews. Any inquiries about the fire moving forward should be directed to Washoe County via their 311 line or the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
A Heartfelt Thank You
We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave firefighters, first responders, and support personnel who worked tirelessly to contain and suppress the Davis Fire. Their courage and dedication have been instrumental in protecting our community and preserving the natural beauty of Washoe Valley. Through their relentless efforts, they have not only contained the fire but also safeguarded lives, homes, and our precious resources. We are immensely grateful for their service and sacrifice.
Weather and Fire Behavior
The recent rain has significantly reduced fire activity, with high humidity levels and a 70% chance of showers today further assisting the firefighting efforts. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms, which could bring convective rainstorms, raising the risk of burn scar flooding or debris flow in the area. Temperatures are expected to range between 51 and 62 degrees, with unstable winds and overcast skies.
Investigation and Closures
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire. Anyone who was near the day-use area of Davis Creek Regional Park on September 8th is encouraged to contact authorities if they have any information.
A forest area closure remains in effect for the burn zone and surrounding areas. For full details, visit the Forest Service’s alert page.
As the fire nears full containment and transitions back to local control, firefighters and local agencies remain committed to safeguarding the community and preparing for the next steps in recovery.
