Last night’s storm brought a series of lightning strikes to the North Shore, one of which ignited the Kings Fire just above Incline Village. The strike occurred near Mt. Baldy, as indicated by the lightning marker on the map.
The Slide Mountain Hand Crew from the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service – Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, are working diligently to contain the fire. The tree struck by lightning has already been felled, and the crew is actively cutting line around the fire perimeter.
There is also a Chinook helicopter drawing water from Lake Tahoe and making regular drops to help suppress this fire. (Watch here)
The fire is located near the Tahoe Rim Trail in the Mt. Rose Wilderness. Hikers and visitors in the area should expect to see smoke, fire crews, equipment, and aerial activity. For safety reasons, please be mindful of the ongoing operations.
