Homewood Mountain Resort announced that it will not be opening for the 2024-25 ski season. The decision came after the resort was unable to sell season passes due to unresolved planning approvals and the withdrawal of financial support.
In May 2024, Homewood submitted a proposal for minor revisions to its 2011 Master Plan to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). These revisions included moving the gondola terminal to a more accessible location, reducing building density, and improving scenic views of the mountain and lake. While these modifications were intended to enhance the resort’s appeal and experience, approval is still pending.
Without the necessary permits and approvals, Homewood’s financial partner withdrew support, forcing the resort into the difficult decision of canceling the upcoming ski season. Homewood has expressed regret over the situation and acknowledged the disappointment this will cause in the community.
The resort emphasized that its revisions do not alter the core goal of the Master Plan, which is to restore Homewood as a key gathering point for Tahoe’s West Shore. However, delays in approvals, partly driven by opposition from the Keep Homewood Public group, have created roadblocks for moving forward with the infrastructure improvements needed to reopen the resort.
While the decision not to open this season is final, Homewood remains hopeful that progress on the approvals will allow them to resume operations in the future. The team has vowed to continue working with regional agencies and the community to move the project forward.
