The historic Tahoe Biltmore Hotel and Casino in Crystal Bay, Nevada, was originally scheduled for auction on August 13th, then postponed to October 8th. EKN Development, the site’s owner, has now pushed the auction back again to November 5th as they continue working to refinance the project.
Despite the delays, EKN Development is moving forward with site preparation for construction, aiming to transform the Biltmore into Lake Tahoe’s first Waldorf Astoria. Demolition and groundbreaking are now planned for Spring 2025.
EKN purchased the property for $56.8 million, but financial restructuring has slowed progress. According to Ebbie K. Nakhjavani, founder and CEO of EKN, the Notice of Default previously filed against the property has been rescinded. “We are focused on ensuring a successful outcome for all stakeholders… We remain fully committed to revitalizing the Tahoe Biltmore as we continue site work in anticipation of the next steps,” Nakhjavani stated.
The Tahoe Biltmore, built in 1946, was once a hotspot for celebrities and local legends. After its closure two years ago, the casino awaits a new chapter in its storied history as part of the luxury Waldorf Astoria brand.
