The IVGID Board of Trustees will host a Community Forum on October 11th where members of the community can ask questions and one of the Trustees will respond. Trustee Tonking has been pushing for this idea for months now as a way to improve the communications between the BoT and members in this community. This is a great idea and long overdue.
During the IVGID meeting on September 27th, Chairman Dent noted the Forum was something they will try to do 3-4 times a year going forward. Dent then suggested they host the first one on October 11th knowing full well that Tonking cannot attend as she will be out of the country — something she planned months ago, and Dent is well aware of.
Both Trustees Noble and Tonking asked Dent to move this back a few days when Tonking will be back in town. This is not an unreasonable request. It is an important event, and Tonking should be at the first one to see this program launched. (This discussion starts at the 2:13:13 mark)
Those requests were ignored and the first Forum will take place on the 11th.
Chairman Dent has rescheduled several important IVGID meetings recently when it suited his own schedule:
- Special Finance Meeting to “Discuss Finance and Accounting Issues and Concerns Identified by the Director of Finance and the Audit Committee Chair” and was covering a topic of extreme interest in the community. This has been a super hot topic in the community for the past couple of months.
- This meeting was held on Thursday, August 24th when it should have been held on Wednesday the 23rd, the regular cadence schedule. Instead, they pushed it back one night, which then competed with the Taste of Incline event.
- Chairman Dent knew attendance would be much less than it should have been.
- Meeting to “Review, discuss and possibly adopt Board Policy 23.1.0 – A Policy regarding access to Confidential and Non-Public information,” and “Receive a verbal report on the history of the District sanction issued against Cliff Dobler and the resulting actions…”
- This meeting was pushed back to Tuesday, September 19th as Dent said IVGID missed the filing time to make the Wednesday, September 13th date.
- They could have easily held this very important meeting (another hot topic) on Thursday the 14th or Friday the 15th. Instead, Chairman Dent scheduled this on a night that competed with the Incliners event, IVGID’s own senior social group.
- The 19th was also a night that Trustee Noble could not attend as he was traveling (a known schedule conflict) and this discussion is something that Noble should have been part of as he was the one who originally shared the letter that brought the Dobler issue to light.
It is unfortunate we have a Chairman that seems to have no consideration for his colleagues, or the community who would welcome feedback from all five Trustees at this first event.
The expectation is that Dent and Schmitz will use this Community Forum to discourage anyone from voting to recall them if/when the special election is held. It is a shame to use IVGID resources for personal gain, but there does not seem to be any way to stop this Forum from happening.
Time will tell if that assumption turns out to be right.
