The Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office has released a small list of people who signed the recall petition for either Trustee Matthew Dent or Sara Schmitz (or both) who need to verify their signature in order for their signature to be counted. They call this process “curing.”
The first batch of signatures has 86 signatures for Dent and 89 for Schmitz. They need to be cured by Friday, October 20th in order for those signatures to be counted.
There will be more names released, and we will share an update once those are posted. There will be a short time available to have these “cured” in order to be counted.
There is no reason stated for why these specific names were listed, but it is most likely that either the address or the signature was illegible or the address did not match what was on the voter rolls in 2020 (people moved or listed a P.O. Box instead of street address).
If your name is listed, you will need to complete this form and submit it to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office immediately.
If you signed both petitions, you will need to go through this process for both Trustee Dent and Trustee Schmitz.
Here are the complete instructions:
1. Start at the Recall Petition page on the Washoe County Registrar of Voters website.
- You can click the link here or you can go to the Washoe County website and click through the various sections to get to this page. To do this, you will follow these steps:
- Go to https://washoecounty.gov/voters/index.php
- Under the big words “Registrar of Voters”
- There are six sections. Click the one called “RECALL PETITIONS” to get to the right page.
There are two sections, one for Trustee Dent, and one for Trustee Schmitz. Again, if you signed both petitions, you will need to go through this process for both Trustee Dent and Trustee Schmitz.
2. Click the blue “here” and it will download a spreadsheet.
3. You will need to open the file to see if you are listed. To do so, double click the file called “Dent Curables.xls” and/or “Schmitz Curables.xls“. If your name is listed, proceed to number 4.
4. Click the blue “Dent Cure Form” and/or the “Schmitz Cure Form” which will download a Word document.
To open that Word document, double click the file called “PetitionCure-Dent.docx” and/or “PetitionCure- Schmitz.docx“.
5. You will need to print this Word document to complete the next steps:
- Step One: Fill out your name
- Step Two: Check the appropriate box
- Step Three: Sign and date
- Step Four: Return this form to the Washoe County Registrar of Voters before 5:00 pm on Friday, October 20th. You can do this one of three ways listed here:
