Starting August 17th through October 13th, Sand Harbor will require reservations on weekends and holidays to mitigate overcrowding and alleviate traffic congestion along Highway 28. This 13-mile stretch of road often experiences bumper-to-bumper traffic from as early as 6 AM, causing significant delays and frustration for locals, commuters, and tourists.
Originally built in 1970 to accommodate 1,200 visitors daily, Sand Harbor now welcomes over 3,000 visitors each day. This new reservation system is part of a comprehensive planning effort aimed at managing the increased demand and preserving the park’s natural beauty.
The Nevada Division of State Parks reports that since launching in 2023, ReserveNevada.com has enhanced trip planning across the state’s parks by offering a centralized platform for reservations. Sand Harbor is now the second location to implement day-use reservations, following the success of this system elsewhere.
For those planning a visit to Sand Harbor this summer, consider utilizing the East Shore Express Service, which begins on June 28, 2024. This free transit service operates daily from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, running in a continuous loop to provide convenient access to the beach.
